From the field: Understanding precision farming
The digitalization of agriculture is making its way onto more and more farms. Precision farming is the first stage of the digital revolution. These techniques offer a variety of benefits to agricultural businesses. But how do you make this highly technical field understandable to your customers and find the right system together? We will help you find the right product.
Utilizing the opportunities of digitalization
The advantages of digitalization and precision farming are obvious: With the help of new technologies, savings can be made on pesticides, fertilizers, and seed, as well as labour, diesel and machinery costs. Your customers use resources more efficiently and thus achieve higher yields while protecting the environment at the same time. The quality of work increases and the strain on people decreases. Sooner or later, rising costs, a shortage of skilled workers and increasing regulations will also require investments in digital solutions in agriculture.
Do your customers have a mixed fleet of machines? Then the acquisition of a brand-independent solution is advantageous. While drivers today are used to working with a variety of different systems, a brand-independent steering system requires much less training. In addition, you make your customers more independent of individual machine manufacturers. Manufacturer-independent systems have been developed for a large number of different machines and often support various interfaces and file formats.
Subplot technique & automated control
Precision farming is divided into two main areas: The subplot technique and the automated control of machines are closely linked.
The subplot technique refers to the management of agricultural land while taking into account soil and crop differences within a field. Based on detailed data on the crop and soil conditions, exactly as much seed, fertilizer and pesticide is applied as is necessary at the respective location.
Automated control of machines, for example, increases precision in application processes that would be unattainable with manual control. With steering systems and an automated attachment control, work results can be optimized, time and operating resources can be saved, and at the same time the driver's workload can be reduced.
Digital farm management
Many farmers and contractors now monitor their own on-farm processes with farm management systems. For example, track data can be managed more easily or transmitted online directly to different drivers or contractors. The so-called field index helps make track and yield data accessible everywhere. At the same time, yield, biomass, application and satellite data provide the basis for comprehensive crop monitoring. The internal processes are thus more transparent and, consequently, more efficient.

Always on track
A navigation system in a car is accurate to within five to ten meters using GPS. Much higher precision is required in the field. With the help of correction signals, such as RTK, the accuracy of satellite signals can be increased. Here, a nearby reference station serves as a fixed point for more precise determination of one's own position. The track deviation is thus reduced to one to two centimetres, depending on reception and signal. This is hardly feasible with the human eye from the tractor cab.
